Solitary Survivor

Sending Money to Tom

Tom does not solicit funds or authorize anyone to do so for him. He does not sell his letters or autographs. Unfortunately, the Bureau of Prisons will not allow him to display and sell his artwork, nor can he sell any of his crocheting. Because he is in solitary confinement, he cannot work within the prison system. Nonetheless, he needs funds for everything from tennis shoes to art and crocheting supplies to a request for medical help (yes, inmates are charged $2.00 if they seek care from a nurse!).

If you would like to help Tom with a donation, please follow these directions explicitly:

1) Send only a money order; U.S. Treasury, state, or local government check; OR a foreign negotiable instrument payable in U.S. currency to:

Federal Bureau of Prisons
Tom Silverstein
Reg. #14634-116, D-Unit
P.O. Box 474701
Des Moines, Iowa,50947-0001
U.S.A.

2) Do not enclose any other item in the envelope.

3) Make sure Tom’s name and register number appear on the money order.

4) Make sure your name and address appear on the upper left hand corner of the envelope.

5) Do NOT mail cash or personal check to the above address or to Tom directly.

There is no charge for this type of donation to a prisoner.

There are alternative methods of sending money to Tom, involving either cash or credit card:
